Silverman Thompson Achieves Significant Recovery for Baltimore Non-Profit
The League for Disabilities, Inc. v. The Mayor and City Council of Baltimore
Silverman Thompson attorneys Andrew G. Slutkin and Ethan S. Nochumowitz recently obtained a settlement valued at $383,536 in a lawsuit filed against the City of Baltimore on behalf of The League for People with Disabilities, a charitable organization dedicated to providing vocational, rehabilitative, educational, medical, wellness and social services to more than two thousand individuals each year with multiple physical, cognitive and neurological disabilities. The lawsuit – which Silverman Thompson litigated pro bono – alleged that beginning in approximately 2008, the City of Baltimore began grossly over-billing The League for water and sewer services based on the City’s allegedly mistaken belief as to the size of the water meter installed at The League’s facility. The settlement – which included a cash payment of more than $245,000 as well as significant billing account adjustments – represented a full-value, “one hundred cents on the dollar” resolution of the case. The important services that The League provides on a daily basis to some of the most vulnerable members of the Baltimore community made Silverman Thompson proud to represent The League on a pro bono basis.
